Neutune’s MixAudio: Charting a Course for AI as the ‘ChatGPT of Music’

T-BoneT-BoneJune 1, 20252 Minutes read

The music industry is increasingly embracing artificial intelligence, a trend exemplified by Neutune’s groundbreaking MixAudio service. Positioned as an “AI music agent” comparable to ChatGPT in its transformative potential for music creation and distribution, Neutune is at the forefront of this technological wave.

Navigating the Legal Soundscape of AI Music

Founded in 2020, Neutune faces the intricate legal challenges inherent in AI-generated music. A primary concern revolves around the use of copyrighted works for training AI models, a complex area with ongoing debate and evolving legal frameworks. The company is actively navigating this landscape, aiming to develop responsible AI practices that respect intellectual property rights.

MixAudio: An Interactive AI Music Ecosystem

Neutune’s CEO, Lee Jong-pil, recently articulated the company’s vision at the 2025 Moving the World with Music (MWM) Conference held in Busan. He emphasized that MixAudio is designed to transcend the capabilities of a simple AI model that merely delivers finished products. Instead, MixAudio functions as a sophisticated ecosystem managing a vast repository of musical pieces. This system possesses the ability to interconnect, deconstruct, adapt, and generate new music from existing elements. Crucially, it meticulously tracks the usage of every fragment and acknowledges the contributors to the final output, promising a more transparent and ethical approach to AI-assisted music production.

Industry Reception: Collaboration Over Confrontation

Lee also shared his observations on the industry’s general attitude towards AI in music. He noted a predominantly positive reception, with many professionals expressing an openness to collaboration and the exploration of new solutions. The prevailing sentiment, according to Lee, leans towards viewing AI as a powerful tool and partner rather than an existential threat. This collaborative spirit is vital as the industry collectively explores the potential of AI to revolutionize various aspects of music.

The Functionality and Future of MixAudio

Launched in 2023, MixAudio empowers users to generate instrumental tracks by simply inputting text prompts. This user-friendly interface democratizes music creation, allowing individuals with diverse skill sets to bring their musical ideas to life. However, Neutune’s ambitions for MixAudio extend far beyond initial creation. The company’s long-term vision is to fundamentally transform not only how music is created but also how it is distributed and consumed, opening up new avenues for artists and listeners alike.

A New Era of Music Creation and Distribution

As AI continues to permeate various industries, its impact on music is undeniable. Neutune’s MixAudio represents a significant step forward, offering a glimpse into a future where artificial intelligence acts as a creative collaborator and an efficient distribution manager. By focusing on an interconnected, deconstructible, and transparent system, Neutune aims to set a new standard for AI in music, fostering innovation while addressing critical legal and ethical considerations. The journey of MixAudio will undoubtedly be closely watched as it seeks to redefine the boundaries of music creation and distribution in the age of artificial intelligence.

T-Bone's articles often focus on the technical side of music production and the unsung heroes behind the scenes.
