Country Music Hall of Fame Unveils “American Currents: State of the Music” Exhibit

Hana ChenHana ChenJune 26, 20252 Minutes read

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has officially opened its highly anticipated annual exhibit, “American Currents: State of the Music,” on Thursday, June 26, 2025. This comprehensive exhibition, which will run through January 2026, offers an in-depth exploration of country music’s vibrant role in American culture over the past year, meticulously detailing significant musical developments, landmark artist achievements, and pivotal industry events.

Charting the Year in Country Music

“American Currents” provides a panoramic view of the genre’s evolution, highlighting the diverse sounds and stories that have shaped country music throughout the preceding year. The exhibit draws from a wide array of sources, showcasing music and defining moments captured at various performance venues and cultural touchstones. Visitors will encounter the artistry of a constellation of stars, including Jessi Alexander, Kelsea Ballerini, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, HARDY, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Megan Moroney, Orville Peck, Post Malone, Shaboozey, Chris Stapleton, Billy Strings, Taylor Swift, Zach Top, Turnpike Troubadours, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, and Morgan Wallen.

The exhibition doesn’t merely celebrate individual artists; it delves into the broader narrative of country music’s cultural impact. A significant focus is placed on the impactful moments and commercial successes that defined country music in 2024. This includes the groundbreaking release of Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter,” which resonated widely and sparked conversations about the genre’s inclusivity and historical roots. The exhibit also chronicles the chart-topping albums and singles that dominated the airwaves and streaming platforms, as well as the highest-grossing tours that demonstrated the genre’s robust live performance appeal.

A Visual and Archival Journey

Complementing the thematic displays is an extensive archival video compilation. This curated collection features key performances and significant events, offering a dynamic visual history of the year. The archival footage includes memorable appearances and contributions from artists such as Zach Bryan, Chappell Roan, Dasha, Sierra Ferrell, Rosie Flores, Wyatt Flores, and Sturgill Simpson. The exhibit also pays tribute to the legacy of Country Music Hall of Fame members, showcasing their enduring influence through archival materials featuring beloved artists like Joe Bonsall, Toby Keith, and Kris Kristofferson.

The “American Currents: State of the Music” exhibit serves as a vital record of country music’s journey, reflecting its adaptability, its cultural relevance, and the enduring power of its storytelling. By capturing the essence of the past year, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum continues its mission to preserve, celebrate, and interpret the enduring legacy of this quintessential American art form. The exhibition invites audiences to engage with the artists and moments that have defined country music, offering a comprehensive and insightful look at its current trajectory and its place within the broader cultural landscape.
