Fort Worth’s ‘Hood Country’ Star C’ing Jerome Charged with Murder in Deadly Shooting

Fort Worth, Texas – In a shocking development that has sent ripples through the country music scene, prominent Texas recording artist Christopher Jerome Blanton Jr., known by his stage name C’ing Jerome, has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting on Monday, August 18, 2025. The artist, celebrated for his unique “hood country” style, stands accused of killing 32-year-old Cody Davontae Scott in an incident police describe as having no prior connection between the two individuals.

The Tragic Encounter on East Berry Street

The deadly shooting occurred in the late afternoon, just before 3:00 p.m., near East Berry Street and South Edgewood Terrace in Fort Worth. According to initial reports and an arrest affidavit, C’ing Jerome, 29, was reportedly driving to his music studio when he claims he first noticed a gray car at a gas station. Moments later, he spotted the same vehicle ahead of him. Blanton told homicide detectives he felt threatened, alleging he saw what he believed to be the end of a pistol in Scott’s car. He then pulled up beside Scott’s vehicle and fired at least two shots.

However, this account has been significantly challenged by police and witness statements. Fort Worth Police spokesperson Buddy Calzada emphatically stated that there was “no confrontation” and “no road rage incident.” Investigators revealed that evidence at the scene and witness testimonies contradict Blanton’s claim of seeing a weapon. A search of Scott’s vehicle reportedly found no firearms.

Furthermore, a passenger in Blanton’s own vehicle provided crucial details. This individual told detectives that Blanton instructed them to lean back before pulling out a handgun and firing shots at Scott’s car. The passenger also stated they never saw Scott with a weapon, nor could they clearly see into Scott’s vehicle due to tinted windows.

The Victim: Cody Davontae Scott, A Father Lost Too Soon

Cody Davontae Scott, a 32-year-old Fort Worth resident, was pronounced dead on Tuesday, August 19, in the intensive care unit of John Peter Smith Hospital. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head. Scott was critically injured when his gray sedan veered into a utility pole following the gunfire.

Scott leaves behind his wife, Shayla Jordan, and a 6-month-old daughter, Chloe. His family has voiced profound grief and disbelief over the senseless act. Cody’s father, who ran a trucking business with his son, described him as a “hard-working, good man who was crazy about his mother and sister.” His sister, Destiny, conveyed the devastating impact, stating, “Being a first-time father, he started to enjoy it so much. We talked about it every day. He made videos with his baby and pictures every single day nonstop. He was enjoying being a father.”

Legal Proceedings and the Road Ahead

Christopher Jerome Blanton Jr. was initially arrested on Monday, August 18, on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. However, after Cody Scott succumbed to his injuries the following day, the charge was upgraded to murder. Blanton’s bond was subsequently set at $150,000 for the murder charge, an increase from the initial $30,000 for aggravated assault. Reports indicate that Blanton was released on bond Thursday morning, August 21.

The Fort Worth Police Department continues its investigation into the exact sequence of events and motives, with spokesperson Buddy Calzada reiterating the puzzling nature of the case due to the apparent lack of any prior connection or road rage incident between the suspect and the victim. This developing story is quickly becoming one of the top stories in the region, drawing significant attention.

C’ing Jerome’s Music Career in Limbo

C’ing Jerome, whose full name is Christopher Jerome Blanton Jr., was born in Fort Worth on May 29, 1996. He has garnered a dedicated following for his innovative fusion of country, R&B, and hip-hop, a genre he proudly calls “hood country.” His official website highlights his journey from Mansfield High School, where he excelled in football and choir, to a recording artist known for heartfelt lyrics and captivating performances. Projects such as “ABC,” “Beautiful Day,” “Average Joe,” and “Barn Don’t Close” showcase his unique blend of sounds.

The implications of these grave charges on C’ing Jerome’s burgeoning music career are undoubtedly substantial. While Dallas rapper Dorrough defended Blanton’s character on social media, describing him as a “young man with a good heart, real morals, and real values,” the legal battle ahead is expected to be lengthy and complex. This incident casts a dark shadow over the artist’s professional future, a somber note in the vibrant landscape of Texas country music.

A Community Mourns and Seeks Justice

The tragic loss of Cody Davontae Scott has left his family and friends reeling. His wife, Shayla Jordan, recounted her heartbreak upon receiving the news, while his sister Destiny emphasized his excitement about fatherhood. As the legal process unfolds, the community of Fort Worth, along with Scott’s grieving family, will be closely watching for justice. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of escalating perceived threats, turning an ordinary Monday into a life-altering tragedy for all involved.
