Walker Hayes Unveils Intimate ‘Unplugged’ Tour and Deeply Personal ’17 Problems’ Album This Fall

Country music maverick Walker Hayes is set to captivate audiences this fall with a newly announced acoustic tour, the “Walker Hayes: Unplugged Tour,” alongside the release of his profoundly reflective 17-track album, “17 Problems.” These significant announcements arrived simultaneously on August 22, 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the artist’s career, which will also see him make his highly anticipated Grand Ole Opry debut on August 29. Hayes’ latest endeavors promise an unfiltered look into the life and experiences that have shaped his unique brand of country music.

The “Unplugged” Journey: An Intimate Acoustic Experience

The “Walker Hayes: Unplugged Tour” is an 18-date expedition designed to offer fans a stripped-back, intimate acoustic experience. Kicking off on October 17th in Duluth, Minnesota, the tour will traverse various states, including Indiana, North Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, and South Carolina, before concluding on November 22nd in Lowell, Massachusetts. Unlike his previous arena-headlining shows that followed the viral sensation of “Fancy Like,” this acoustic format allows Hayes to peel back the layers of production, focusing instead on the raw storytelling that lies at the heart of his songs. Each evening is envisioned as a communal gathering of connection, hope, and healing, where Hayes will guide audiences through the triumphs, heartbreaks, and quiet family reflections that have defined his journey.

Supporting Hayes on select dates will be fellow artists Shane McAnally and Harper Grace. McAnally, a renowned songwriter and producer, has been a significant collaborator on Hayes’ recent work, including the new album. Harper Grace, a multi-instrumentalist who gained recognition during her 2018 run on American Idol, brings her powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence to the acoustic settings, further enriching the tour’s musical tapestry.

“17 Problems”: A Deep Dive into Life’s Complexities

Released on August 22, 2025, via RCA Records/Monument Records, “17 Problems” is Hayes’ most honest and emotionally raw album to date. The 17 tracks serve as a lyrical memoir, exploring deeply personal themes such as childhood missteps, the challenging lessons of coming-of-age, the profound weight of raising six children, and the painful process of grieving a parent—specifically, the loss of his father in 2021. Hayes also delves into his renewed relationship with faith and his ongoing battle with addiction, which he has openly discussed in previous works like his “Sober Thoughts” EP.

Hayes himself describes the album as “very reflective,” noting, “I think you can tell I’m in the middle of losing my dad and raising kids. I’m at that corner of the road in life when you’re looking back on your childhood—you can see it as clear as you ever have—but you’re looking down the barrel of raising kids and keeping your family together.” This introspective approach resonates throughout the record, offering listeners a window into the tensions between his past self and the man he aspires to be.

The album features an impressive list of collaborators, with Hayes co-writing every track alongside esteemed songwriters like Shane McAnally, Nicolle Galyon, and Lori McKenna. Grammy-winning producers Warren “Oak” Felder and Shane McAnally also contributed to the project. Notable guest appearances include country music superstar Kane Brown on the spiritual track “Song For My Son,” where Hayes pleads for divine guidance as a father, and pop veteran Colbie Caillat, who lends her crystalline vocals to “Adderall.” Other standout tracks like “17 Year Old Problems” long for the simplicity of youth, while “Pocket Knife” offers nostalgic glimpses into his Mobile, Alabama upbringing, showcasing his signature blend of witty observations and heartfelt vulnerability.

Grand Ole Opry Debut: A Milestone Moment

Adding another significant milestone to his packed schedule, Walker Hayes is slated to make his Grand Ole Opry debut on August 29, 2025. This performance is part of the Opry’s ongoing “Opry 100” celebrations, honoring a century of country music heritage. For an artist who has navigated a unique path to stardom, blending traditional storytelling with modern hip-hop influences, an Opry debut signifies a profound recognition within the genre’s most hallowed halls. It’s an acknowledgment of his impactful contributions and a testament to his journey from early career struggles to mainstream success.

The Evolution of a Country Music Storyteller

Walker Hayes’ career has been a testament to resilience and authenticity. After moving to Nashville in 2005 to pursue his music dreams, he spent years refining his craft. His breakthrough came in 2021 with the unexpected viral hit “Fancy Like,” which, propelled by a TikTok dance created with his daughter, shot to number one on various country music charts and achieved six-time platinum status. This success redefined his career, moving him from intimate club gigs to headlining arenas.

Following “Fancy Like,” Hayes continued to release popular singles like “AA” (which chronicled his sobriety journey), “Y’all Life,” and “U Gurl.” His 2022 album, “Country Stuff The Album,” cemented his status as a hitmaker. The new “Unplugged” tour and “17 Problems” album represent a deliberate shift back to a more personal and reflective mode of expression, showcasing his growth as both an artist and an individual. It’s a period of deep introspection, inviting listeners to connect with his story of faith, family, and personal evolution.

Anticipation and Impact

The simultaneous announcements of the “Walker Hayes: Unplugged Tour” and the “17 Problems” album, coupled with his imminent Grand Ole Opry debut, create a powerful narrative of an artist at a new peak of creative and personal transparency. Fans can anticipate an unparalleled opportunity to experience Hayes’ music in its most authentic form, connecting with the raw emotions and compelling narratives that define “17 Problems” through the intimate setting of the acoustic tour. This era promises to solidify Walker Hayes’ legacy not just as a hitmaker, but as a profound and relatable storyteller in the contemporary country music landscape.
