Orange Beach Considers Festival Future Amidst Thematic Shift

Kenji TanakaKenji TanakaJuly 21, 20252 Minutes read

City Council to Review Franchise Extension for Country Music Festival

The Orange Beach City Council is set to deliberate on the future of a prominent music festival, with a proposal on the table to extend its franchise agreement. The council will consider a two-year extension for the Sand in My Boots Music Festival, a rebranded event formerly known as the Hangout Music Festival, which is pivoting to a country music theme for its 2025 iteration.

A Decade of Franchise Agreements

The festival initially secured a 10-year franchise agreement in 2015. This foundational agreement concluded following the most recent event. The proposed extension aims to provide a stable framework for the festival’s continued development and execution, specifically covering the crucial planning and production phases for the 2026 and potentially 2027 editions.

Proposed Extension Details

Initial terms for the extended franchise would run through May 21, 2026. Crucially, the amendment includes an option for a further extension, carrying the agreement through May 27, 2027. This structure allows for flexibility while ensuring continuity for the festival’s organizers and stakeholders.

Council Agenda Includes Broader City Matters

The discussion surrounding the festival’s franchise is part of a larger agenda for the City Council’s upcoming work session, scheduled for July 21. Alongside the festival’s future, council members will also address other significant city matters. These include a review of short-term rental regulations and associated fines, indicating a busy and comprehensive session for local governance.

Recommendation for Festival Support

Grant Brown, the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, has issued a memo recommending approval of the proposed amendment. His recommendation underscores the city’s support for the festival’s ongoing planning efforts and its perceived value to the community. The aim of the amendment is to bolster the continued planning and production of the event.

Broader Cultural Landscape in Baldwin County

In related local news, Baldwin County schools have garnered recognition for their academic achievements, being ranked among the Top 25 school districts in Alabama by Niche. This highlights a strong educational environment within the county. Meanwhile, the upcoming National Shrimp Festival, held in Gulf Shores, is also set to feature a diverse musical lineup. This festival will encompass a mix of musical genres, notably including country music, signaling a broader embrace of the genre within the region’s cultural events calendar.

The decision by the Orange Beach City Council on the Sand in My Boots Music Festival’s franchise extension will be a key development in shaping the city’s event landscape for the coming years, particularly as the festival embraces its new country music identity.
