CMT Music Awards Marks 20th Anniversary with ‘Ultimate Party Edition’ Special

Rohan JoshiRohan JoshiJuly 7, 20252 Minutes read

CMT is set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its prestigious awards show with a special, action-packed program titled CMT Music Awards: Ultimate Party Edition. This celebratory ninety-minute event is scheduled to premiere on CMT on July 17th, airing at 9:00 PM Eastern Time / 8:00 PM Central Time. The broadcast promises an in-depth look back at two decades of music, memorable performances, and artist insights.

A Look Back at Iconic Moments

The CMT Music Awards: Ultimate Party Edition will be expertly hosted by CMT’s own Cody Alan. The special features exclusive, brand-new sit-down interviews with a stellar lineup of country music’s biggest names. Esteemed artists such as Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Cody Johnson, Cole Swindell, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, Kelsea Ballerini, Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town, and Luke Bryan will be sharing their most cherished memories from past awards ceremonies. These artists will offer fans a unique opportunity to hear never-before-told stories and relive their most significant appearances on the CMT Music Awards stage.

“From the wildly comedic digital short cold opens to spectacular indoor and outdoor sets spanning Austin to Nashville, it’s been amazing to go back deep into our archives and re-live some of the show’s most iconic moments – and do it alongside the superstar artists that made them happen,” commented Margaret Comeaux, Executive Producer & SVP, Production for CMT. Her statement highlights the extensive archival footage and the personal narratives that form the backbone of this anniversary special, emphasizing the collaborative effort with the artists who have shaped the show’s history.

Fan Engagement Takes Center Stage

In a nod to the show’s heritage as country music’s inaugural fan-voted awards ceremony, CMT is re-introducing a fan-centric element. Viewers will have the chance to actively participate by voting for the Ultimate Fan Favorite Performance award. This voting period will be open from July 11th through July 14th, with fans able to cast their ballots exclusively through CMT’s official Facebook and Instagram pages. The triumphant winner of this fan-voted category will be revealed during the premiere broadcast of the CMT Music Awards: Ultimate Party Edition.

“It was also essential for us to nod to the show’s history as country’s first fan-voted award show by putting the power back in the hands of our fans to help us choose the ultimate fan-favorite moment,” added Comeaux. “We can’t wait for audiences to relive the biggest and best moments from the past two decades of CMT Music Awards – and hear some never-been-told stories along the way.” This initiative underscores CMT’s commitment to celebrating its audience and acknowledging their integral role in the show’s enduring success over the past twenty years.

The CMT Music Awards: Ultimate Party Edition is poised to be a comprehensive retrospective, offering a nostalgic journey through two decades of country music’s most celebrated moments. With candid interviews from top artists and a direct call for fan participation, the special aims to capture the vibrant spirit and rich history of the CMT Music Awards, celebrating both the artists and the dedicated fanbase that have made it a cornerstone of the genre.
